Upon entering this desolate and depressing area of the lands from the South, (which is the only entrance for the East and North are barricaded by mountains, and the West is where the castle is with a mighty wall, dense forest, and other means of defense,) it is hard to see much of the landscape. Dense, dead trees block most views to help avoid ambushes. This blackened forest shell surrounds the whole dark complex, making it very clear when you are entering the rulers’ territory. If you make it past the first knots of dead trees and blackened bushes, the forest gradually begins to disperse. The trees space out, though none of them look alive. In fact, every plant here looks slightly gnarled and mutated, but what could you expect in damned lands? This is the primary source of prey for those creatures that need to kill to remain alive, so beware the wandering lycan, wolf, or possible vampire. A red river runs around the kingdom full of all the blood ever spilled. This river runs to light lands and is impossible to drink unless you’re a vampire or something of the sort. Mermaids may swim here for it is salty, but any other creature would do well to stray away from the brook. There is a rickety bridge crossing the river, again, to keep outsiders out.
Once you enter the main lands of the kingdom, the forest is hardly more than a scattering of the grotesque trees and bushes. Prey for wolves and lycans lurk in this area but hardly dare come closer. The trees are spaced enough so that you can begin to see landscape in the kingdom, and you realize that there is in fact a civilization in this seemingly empty forest. The sky has darkened and it always seems overcast or nighttime. The occasional showing of the sun is a rare occasion in these lands of the cursed.
To the west, a towering fortress marks where the residents here sleep and live. The castle is made of black ebony and sets off the depressing mood of the whole area. The castle is modeled after the old medieval castles, with towers and many stories and such. Of course, the two rulers live in the most spacious rooms and have the entire top floor to themselves. No other being except the two ruler’s have had the privilege to see this wonderful floor so far, but there’s always a first...The tower has ten stories. The first two are for basic living necessities, a kitchen and other rooms such as that. The next seven stories have five bedrooms each, and the species may take their pick of where they want to sleep.
If you turn your eyes to the North, the pure water streams off a waterfall (from the mountains behind it) and into a spring, which in turn spills into the river. This water is pure and may be drunk by any species. The river splits to encircle the kingdom. (As said before) As it flows to the castle the water stays fresh and pure, though as the other side splits away from the castle it becomes a salt river for the merspecies to bathe and drink in. After a few miles the river gradually begins to turn a reddish color until finally, when the two ends meet, it is just the blood spilled on the dark lands.
To the East are mountains, which keep out invading species. The forest tries to climb up the rocky terrain, but no species other than those who fly can climb the mountain. The cliffs that look over the whole dark lands are a great point to devise strategies and simply get away from it all. You might find dragon food up here and well as mountain goats and prey such as that. However, the fall is sure death and the journey upwards is a horrific experience. The snow that falls on the highest parts of these mountains has been tainted red since the beginning of time, and is fatal to drink except for vampires and blood sucking animals.
Right in the middle of everything is a clearing formed by a circle of trees. This is where most of the harem of the darks can reside when they wish to socialize or a meeting is called. This is the main activity point of the day’s happenings and is where all the battles take place. Only short, dead grass grows here but it is an improvement to the grassless forest beyond the clearing. This whole land is very secluded from the worlds outside of it. Perhaps because it wishes not to associate itself with Lights or Neutrals. No matter why, if you enter there is a very good chance you may never return to the outside world…
